Limited spaces available.
A limited number of relay spaces are available for the Beyond the Wall Triathlon on 30 June 2024. All you need to do now is put together your dream team and register on the Triathlon Ireland website.
What is a relay triathlon?
With the sprint distance relay - which is a 750-metre open water swim, followed by a 20km cycle on closed roads and a 5km trail run - a team of three divides up the swimming, cycling and running between them.
What are the rules?
Relay Teams will share one timing chip per team. Chip is transferred between team members during each transition. Timing chips must be worn on the ankle - and if you don’t transfer the chip or don’t put it on your ankle, it will mean you are not timed, so it’s really important to remember!
The team swimmer will wear the chip first. While the swim takes place, the cycle team member waits at the assigned cycle space in transition, wearing their race number. After the swim, the relay swimmer must have removed their wetsuit completely - before handing over the chip which the cyclist places on their own ankle.
Only then can the cyclist put on their helmet, fasten it and run with their bike to the end of the transition.
Once the transition area is clear of the team cyclist, the running member can take up position in transition wearing their race number. On return the cyclist will dismount bike before entering transition and place their bike back onto rack before handing over chip to their relay runner … who you guessed it… must place it on their ankle!
The relay Runner will do their final bit with a 5km trail run and head to the finish line!
